Let’s be honest if you’re a dog person, your wedding day just wouldn’t feel right without your four-legged best friend there. Whether they’re walking down the aisle, posing for photos, or just wagging their tail through the chaos, dogs bring a kind of unfiltered joy that makes every moment more real (and way cuter).
Over the past weddings here at The Meadow Barn, we’ve seen more and more couples choosing to make their dogs part of their wedding celebrations — and we are so here for it. Because really, why should humans have all the fun?
1. Decide on Their Role Early
First things first — think about how you want your dog to be involved. Are they a ring bearer, a flower pup, or just a very stylish guest of honour? Knowing this helps plan the day properly and keeps things calm for everyone (especially your pup!).
Some couples have their dog there just for photos, while others have them at the ceremony and then whisk them home for a nap before the evening kicks off. There’s no wrong answer — just whatever feels right for you (and your dog’s personality).
2. Keep Them Comfortable
Weddings are busy, loud, and full of new smells which can be overwhelming for even the chillest pup. Make sure they have a quiet space to relax, plenty of water, and someone who’s dedicated to looking after them.
A trusted dog chaperone or a family member who knows your pup well is essential. That way, you can focus on your guests while your furry friend gets all the cuddles and care they deserve.

3. Dress Them Up (But Keep It Sensible)
We’ve seen everything from tiny bow ties to full floral collars and yes, they look adorable. Just make sure your dog’s outfit is comfy and doesn’t restrict their movement or breathing.
Pro tip: avoid anything too tight or with small parts they could chew off safety first, fashion second (although, let’s be real, they’ll still steal the show).
4. Capture the Moment
Your photographer will love having your dog there trust us. Those candid moments of your pup running across the lawn or resting at your feet during the ceremony are always some of the most-loved photos after the big day.
Tell your photographer ahead of time so they can plan a few specific shots, and maybe pack a few treats to get those perfect “look at the camera” moments.
5. Embrace the Chaos
Because let’s be honest, dogs bring a little bit of beautiful chaos wherever they go and that’s part of their charm. They might bark at the wrong moment or steal a canapé or two, but those are the moments that make your day truly yours.
Your wedding is about love, joy, and authenticity and there’s nothing more authentic than a wagging tail in your photos or a dog snoozing under the dinner table as you dance the night away.
